Planning Your Visit

The Museum of the American Revolution is located at 101 South Third Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the corner of Third and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia's Old City District neighborhood.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended for all visitors, including Museum Members. Tickets are timed and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tickets to the Museum can be purchased online, by phone (215.253.6731), or at the Museum. Tickets are good for two consecutive days.

General Admission is $27 for adults (walk-up, in-person) or $25 for adults (online purchase only), $21 for seniors, students (with ID), military (with ID), and teachers (with ID), $14 for youth ages 6 to 17. Children ages 5 and under are free. The Museum also offers a Family Four-Pack (two adult GA tickets and two youth GA tickets) for $64, available online only.

Most visitors find that it takes them about two hours to experience the whole Museum. In order to maximize your time with us and give everyone in your family a chance to enjoy the Museum, be sure to see our “don’t miss” experiences for families, as well as our daily program schedule.

Audio tours of our core galleries are available in English, Spanish, and French, and are available at the front desk.

Snacks and beverages are allowed to be consumed in the rotunda and atrium areas on the first and second floors. Water fountains are located on the first and second floors as well as the lower level. Please note that food and beverages are not allowed in the galleries or Revolution Place. Bottled water is allowed.

Yes, our Cross Keys Café is currently open 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Yes, the Museum has Wi-Fi for guests.

Yes! Water fountains are located on the first and second floors as well as the lower level.

Yes, there are benches located throughout select galleries for you to rest during your visit. The exhibition is divided into four sections, with each section accessible from our second-floor atrium, and guests can enter and exit the galleries as they wish to rest or use the restrooms. Please see our Museum Map for the location of these doors.

Still and video photography is permitted for noncommercial use only in the Museum and exhibitions, unless otherwise posted. For more information about when and how you can take photos or video in the Museum, please visit the Visitor Code of Conduct page on our website.

Notice: Visitors may be filmed, photographed, or recorded by the Museum of the American Revolution for educational and promotional uses, including for the Museum’s printed publications, advertising, digital channels, and for other partner channels.

The Museum offers unstaffed self-check for coats for Museum visitors. Guests are allowed to carry small bags and backpacks in the Museum galleries. The Museum does offer lockers for personal items and larger baggage that are available for Museum guests only. The standard rental time is four hours, with an option to extend if needed.

The prices for locker rentals are:

  • $3 for standard size baggage (1 bag)
  • $4 for large size baggage (2 bags)
  • $5 for jumbo size baggage (3 bags or more)

The Museum is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Coat check and lockers are for Museum guests only.

There are several parking garages located within a mile from the Museum:

Discounted parking for Museum Members at the Bourse Garage and The Autopark at Olde City. Present your Membership Card at the front desk of the Museum to receive your discount.

There are a number of hotels within walking distance to the Museum and to additional Philadelphia attractions. Check out a list of hotels nearby.

To manage capacity, tickets are sold on a timed basis. Same-day tickets at the front desk are available on a first-come, first-served basis and may sell out.

The last time slot is 3 p.m. The Museum closes at 5 p.m.

No, you do not have to print your ticket(s). We can scan the ticket(s) from your phone or print the ticket(s) for you at the front desk.

First off, don't panic. It happens! We've got your back. We will happily assist you at the front desk upon your arrival and work you into the next available time slot.

Any Day tickets allow visitors flexibility to buy tickets for Museum access without picking a specific date or time for their visit. Any Day Tickets are valid for the date the ticket is used and the following day. They make great gifts for friends and family planning a visit to the Museum!

Online ticket orders are delivered via email from [email protected] immediately after you submitted your order. Museum tickets are delivered as an email attachment. Please check your spam or junk folder for the email if you don't see it in your inbox.

The Museum of the American Revolution now participates in the North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association program. If you are a qualifying member of a museum or organization outside a 15-mile radius that participates in NARM, please visit our front desk at the beginning of your visit to obtain timed admission ticket(s) by presenting your membership card, which must have the NARM logo preprinted on the card or a NARM sticker. Unfortunately, advance orders via phone or web are not accepted. You will receive free general admission during normal business hours for up to two named adults and up to four children under 18 (guests not included), member discounts for public programming, and 10% off in the Museum Shop and Cross Keys Café.

Yes! The Museum offers a number of ways to save on the price of admission. The Museum is happy to offer discounts for general admission adult tickets and family four packs purchased online as well as to seniors (65 and over), educators, active duty or retired military, and to students with a valid ID. The Museum offers free admission to Museum Members, children (5 and under), Pennsylvania ACCESS cardholders, and SNAP recipients through the Museums for All program.

Yes! Visit the Front Desk to apply your ticket purchase toward your Membership.

The Museum is proud to be part of the Blue Star Museums program, which offers free admission to active-duty military personnel, including the National Guard and Reserves, and their families from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day.

Yes! The "Washington's War Tent" film, highlighted by the reveal of the real tent, plays every hour on the hour starting at 11 a.m. Final showing is at 4:40 p.m. Our virtual tour of Washington's Field Headquarters is also available any time online.

Kids & Families

Parents are allowed to breast- or bottle-feed anywhere in the Museum. If you would like a more private or quiet space, please ask at the Front Desk.

Yes! There are family restrooms with changing tables on the first and second floors. See the Museum map for the location of family restrooms.

Yes! Strollers are allowed in the galleries and in Revolution Place, the Museum's family discovery center.

We have some strollers available to borrow free of charge at the Front Desk on a first-come, first-served basis.

Accessibility

The Museum of the American Revolution is committed to making its facilities, exhibits, and programs accessible for all audiences in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Museum’s main entrance is fully accessible. There is a passenger loading/unloading zone in front of the Museum and benches inside the front doors for guests to await drivers. The entrance doors open automatically when activated by pressing the button adjacent to the door. The Museum has convenient elevators and ramps that make all its public spaces accessible.

Manual wheelchairs are available free of charge at the Reception Desk for use within the Museum on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There are accessible restrooms on each floor of the Museum. Family/personal restrooms equipped with changing tables are located on the first and second floors.

The Museum is a Certified Autism Center (CAC), designated by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).

The Museum offers a Sensory Guide, and noise reducing headphones, available at the Reception Desk and the Battle of Brandywine Theater. The Museum also offers a quiet room giving guests the opportunity to play the Museum’s signature films in a small, private setting.

The Museum also offers Relaxed Experience Mornings on a quarterly basis, which allow guests to experience the Museum galleries in a low-stress and less crowded environment, with lower sound effects and higher light levels to create a relaxed sensory experience. Throughout the morning, interact with replica objects and our accessibility-trained Museum staff at several stops along the way to enhance your experience. Explore Washington’s War Tent theater through hands-on materials and stop by Revolution Place, our fully immersive and family-friendly discovery center. At the Front Desk, pick up a sensory guide or social story to aid your visit. Other offerings include an available quiet room and sensory kits to borrow.

Thanks to support from The Gordon and Llura Gund Foundation, the museum is pleased to offer free tickets for families to attend our Relaxed Experience Mornings. Space is limited. To see upcoming dates for Relaxed Experience Mornings, please see the events calendar or contact [email protected].

Films located within the galleries are close captioned and there are audio transcripts of our core gallery and special exhibit audio tours. These can be requested at the Front Desk. The Museum also offers its scavenger hunt of the core galleries with American Sign Language translations courtesy of the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.

American Sign Language interpreters are available for special programs and guided tours. Please request the interpreter two weeks in advance by completing our Accessibility Accommodation Request form.

An Audio Descriptive Tour and Touch Guides of the core galleries are available at the front desk. Touch Tours can be scheduled both before the Museum opens to the public as well as during regular Museum operating hours. Please complete our Accessibility Accommodation Request form at least two weeks in advance of your visit to book a Touch Tour.

The Museum has tactile graphics available of select paintings in the core galleries, including William B. T. Trego's iconic March to Valley Forge, courtesy of the Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Museum also has a tactile 3D printing of Washington's War Tent, available at the Alan B. Miller Theater (second floor), courtesy of Clovernook. The file to 3D print your own is available to download for free (.STL file). The 3D model was designed by Henry Levesque of Clovernook.

The Museum does not have any automobile parking facilities. Please refer to Directions & Parking for a list of nearby parking lots or visit the City of Philadelphia's website for information on accessible parking

Service animals are welcome in the Museum. As defined by the ADA, a service animal is any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Other species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or untrained, are not considered service animals. Emotional support animals, comfort animals, or therapy dogs are not allowed into the Museum as they are not service animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA.

Personal Care Attendants of guests with disabilities are admitted to the Museum free of charge. This applies to all guests who purchase general admission tickets, and guests who attend special programs and performances. Guests who wish to purchase advance tickets should contact 267.579.3596 to request complimentary tickets for an accompanying Personal Care Attendant.

On April 19, 2017, the 242nd anniversary of the “shot heard ‘round the world” that ignited the Revolutionary War, the Museum of the American Revolution officially opened to the public in the heart of historic Philadelphia. Learn more about the history of the Museum.
